Carolyn and Tim Hoekstra have decided to downsize now that all the kids have grown up and moved out of the house! However, they leave behind a beautiful family home and a lovely equestrian facility, now available for sale.

The property is located in Battle Creek, MI, centrally located to Detroit (2 hours), Chicago (3 hours), Grand Rapids (60 minutes), and Indianapolis (4 hours), on the intersection of I-94 and I-69. It sits on 15 acres of hilly wooded land, and features a 6 bedroom house, 3 car garage with second story, 9 stall barn, 2007 85' x 136' Morton-built HEATED indoor arena, and brand new 100' x 220' outdoor arena, as well as paddocks and parking. There is room for expansion of the equestrian facility if desired. It is the ideal property for a professional to start a new business or upgrade an existing one, or a private equestrian enthusiast.

House and Arena

With over 6000 sq feet, the residence is extremely spacious and has happily housed a family of 7 for the last 23 years. Over its three floors there are 6 large bedrooms, 4 full baths and 2 half baths. Other features include a huge living room with a stone fireplace, bay windows and vaulted ceiling, a balcony library with fireplace, a grand entrance hall with feature window, a large family room with bay windows and brick fireplace, a games room with french doors to an enclosed rear porch, music room, formal dining room, and large, bright kitchen with dining area.

The master bedroom has its own adjoining full bath and a balcony overlooking the grounds and woods beyond, as well as a large walk-in closet. The kitchen is centrally located, and leads out by sliding doors to a second-floor porch that runs the length of the house. The porch also adjoins the living room by double french doors.

The property was built with a growing family in mind, and details like lots of closets for storage, a large laundry room and a "mud room" from the back entrance for shoes and coats, make family living very convenient. Or, with its two front entrances, multiple bathrooms and communal areas, the house could easily be separated into apartments if needed.

The entire back yard and equestrian facility is fenced in, and there is a large triple garage with a full height second floor for storage. The back yard also boasts a large vibrant cherry tree which fruits extremely well every year toward the end of June/early July, perfect for those 4th of July pies!

The barn has 9 stalls, 12 x 12 or 12 x 14 all with automatic waterers, rubber matting and shatter-proof Dutch plexiglass windows to the outside to make the barn nice and bright. The barn also has a heated tack room with washer/dryer hook-ups and sink, separate bathroom with sink, wash bay with hot and cold water and overhead heaters and hay, feed and equipment storage areas. Four stalls open with Dutch doors that lead directly into some of the 6 paddocks.

The gorgeous and state-of-the-art indoor arena measures 85' x 136' and is fully insulated and heated, making winter riding very comfortable, and safer for the horses without worries about frozen footing or pressure on their lungs from extremely cold air. It has opening windows along the length of both long sides and two large sliding doors to keep it cool and breezy in the summer months, so riders have the luxury of perfect riding conditions year-round. The footing is also state-of-the-art and easy to maintain, and one entire short side is mirrored for an ideal training environment.

The outdoor arena is newly installed, and measures 100'x220', a perfect size to set up am Olympic dressage arena inside, or large enough for a jump course. The footing was carefully installed with a laser-leveled crushed stone base, a special mesh layer to allow optimum drainage and topped with sand and rubber.
